Have a green Halloween!
Have a green Halloween and make sure your spooky celebrations don't cost the earth!
Halloween is a fun time of year for getting dressed up and enjoying all things spooky, It can also be a very wasteful time of year - buying new costumes, decorations, and sweets can create a lot of plastic waste.
There are lots of easy ways to have a Halloween that's kinder to the planet.
👻 Reuse or make your own costume - you can do wonders with an old bedsheet!
🎃 Eat your pumpkin! Instead of throwing it away, turn it into soup. Once you're done with it, dispose of it in a bin or compost, but don't leave it to rot outside - it can be toxic to wildlife like badgers, foxes and some birds.
🍭 Make your own spooky snacks. Lots of sweets often means lots of unrecyclable plastic packing, but baking and decorating your own biscuits is fun and waste free!
🔥 Check your bonfire! Animals like hedgehogs may have made their home in piles of leaves in your garden. Only ever burn a bonfire that's newly built that day. 🦔
💀 Leave the webs to the spiders - birds and other wildlife can get caught in web decorations, so either avoid using them or put them inside your windows instead.
